POST A RESPONSE: We keep learning more and more about all of the characters in the novel. What else did you learn about Ivan's character today? Use examples/quotes from the book to support your opinion. Be sure to include details. Don't forget about the criteria for an acceptable response.
We did a lot of work today in class on making predictions. We made a prediction based on items found in the shoe box (a gorilla, banana, elephant, crayons, crumpled paper, Ivan and Stella ) We discussed and shared our predictions. Then we revised our prediction based on what you learned from watching the 'BOOK TRAILER'. POST A RESPONSE: Reflect on what you learned about predictions today. Did your revised prediction differ from the predictions you made the first time? Explain. Be sure to only post your reflections only after checking it over for the 'Givens' (COPS). You made it! Now that you are probably sitting a home, well rested, for some maybe exhausted, take a moment and think about your journey up the Grouse Grind. Tell me what you thought of the hike. How did you feel at the beginning of the hike? What was it like reaching the 1/2 way mark? How did you feel finishing those last steps to the top of the mountain and having your peers cheer you on? Did you set a goal for yourself and did you achieve it? Would you hike the Grind again? What would you do differently next time? Today we learned a new Precept: Your Deeds are your Monuments. In your Google docs write a paragraph about what you think the precept means and how you feel about it. To get you started refer to the brainstorm we created in class today or recall what August wrote about in Wonder. You must take 10-15 minutes to check that you have meet the checklist of what a good response looks like. Also share your ideas with your parents and ask them what they think about this precept or if they have any ideas you could add to your response. Once you have completed the task be sure to post your response in the Comments of this post.
August had a first full day of school. At the end of the day he suddenly started to cry in his mom's lap. She said everything was going to be okay. August stated he was sorry but his mom said he had nothing to be sorry about. "Why do I have to be so ugly, Mommy?" August whispered. "No, baby, you're not..." "I know I am." She kissed me all over my face. She kissed my eyes that came down too far. She kissed my cheeks that looked punched in. She kissed my tortoise mouth. She said soft words that I know were meant to help me, but words can't change my face. Describe your thoughts and feelings towards this part of the book. Remember our checklist for what a good response looks like. |
