What do you think the animal was in the poem we read this morning?

I think the animal was a mountain lion because they can live in the tundra and in the rocky mountains the also can climb trees so that would make sense because the poem said "I can smell it above the tree tops" or something like that.

The way I monitor my comprehension is by stopping and closing my book to recall on what I have read. I also reread the part so I can have a better visualization on the book i am reading. Another I do is read ahead to see if I can get a better understanding on what the situation is in a book.

In this poem I really had to use by background knowledge to see what I know, I think it was a mountain, because it couldn't be a wolf because it would take a pack off wolfs to take down a moose. Also I think it couldn't be a bear because bear don't usually eat moose or deer, they would go more for salmon insded, but however grizzly bears can live in the Rocky Mountains. I too think it is a mountain lion or cougar (same thing just differnt name) because it dose eat small moose and deer or full sized if they wanted too, this fact was from my backround knowledge. Also I looked up possibly 25 differnt websites about these creatures and a few specific sites said that they can live in a tundra, also the Rocky mountains are in Canada, and books and web say that most mountain lions live in the northern western part off Canada and Alaska, also mountain lions can survive in the Rocky mountains. Sense off smell on these creatures you could say are ten times better then the average human, it says in the poem that it can smell its prey from 20 miles away or so, and I searched it and yes these mammals have a keen sense off smell.

I can re read the story, look for interesting sentences to bring the story together. Read ahead. And also read with a parent to make sure I am reading the story right but also by understanding what it is I'm reading.

I think that the animal in the poem we read this morning was either a mountain lion, wolf or a wolverine. I think that it could be a Wolverine because I read about them and it said that they can live in the three different climates we read in the poem and it also said that if they needed/wanted to they could take down larger animals like moose.

At home I monitor my comprehension by asking myself every once in a while if I know what is going on. If I am confused I figure out what part I don't get and then make it so I do understand. Then I enjoy the book more as well. I do this by rereading, using my background knowledge, looking things up, asking questions and stopping to think. Sometimes when I don't know what a word means my parents will actually ask me questions to see if I can figure it out. If I don't understand a phrase then they will also help me break it down and most of the time I can eventually figure it out. Sometimes I don't even mean to monitor my comprehension on purpose but I still do it automatically.

Sometimes I will also read out loud and read with a parent. I reread and slow down a lot especially when I am trying to fin the meaning because then I can connect and really feel what the characters are feeling.

I think the animal in the David Bouchard poem we read was a mountain lion or maybe a cougar. Mountain lions can climb and they hunt deer, and moose. They also live in mountains along with the tundra. I found these things out by looking it up and also using my background knowlege. I watch a lot of national geographic. When I got home later in the day I asked my very smart brother who has more background knowlege than me. If I still can't figure something out usually I'll go on dictionary.com and look up the word I don't get and find the exact answer.

I think the animal in the poem was a wolf because I know that wolves have an insane sense of smell and they can hear things from a very long distance. Also, wolves live up north and in the mountains as stated in the poem to. I am still not 100% sure though.

I also know that David Bouchard is Canadian so that might help.

Here is a video that explains the difference between mass and weight. It is explained in a catchy song and was pretty useful for me.

How I monitor my comprehension when reading at home is by re reading, reading ahead, and looking up words in a dictionary. I sometimes don't get what is going on in the book that I'm reading, and I start to think about other things, but now that I monitor my comprehension, that doesn't happen as much any more.

How I monitor my comprehension while reading at home is by asking my self if I understand what I am reading. If I don't understand what I am reading I have many strategies to figure it out. Some stratifies are rereading, asking my parents, slowing down or using the dictionary.

How I monitor my comprehension at home is by stopping at a sentence I don't get and reread it and then think what it might mean. Some of my strategies are looking words up in a dictionary to improve my vocabulary and to ask my parents or friends.

Ways that i monitor my reading comprehension are reading out loud to understand what I am reading if I am reading a book to fast, I will reread a paragraph or sentence if I don't what is happening in the book, I will stop and think about what i am reading or what i was reading before in the book to understand what I am reading now and I will also use my background knowledge to know what some of the words mean.

I think the animal was either a mountain lion or a wolf, because the both have a really good sense of smell, and they both hunt animals.

I monitor my comprehension at home by making sure I understand what I'm reading. The stradegies I use are, re-reading if I miss something or if I didn't get it, I would stop to check my understanding and when I stop I would ask questions like, "What did I just read?" Or something I that. Another strategy is creatin a picture in my head. It helps me by, seeing the situation that they're in or if they're describing an area would visualize the area to make a picture of the setting. It makes it more interesting as well.
